Than Ma Nar was two years old and lived with his family in Sat Chauk village, in the Kanpetlet township of Chin State, Myanmar. On 13 August, at 1.48 pm, the Myanmar military targeted the village with airstrikes, including at least two 500lb bombs. Four houses and a school – which appeared to have been the main target – were destroyed by the bombing. Two other houses were badly damaged.

Two civilians were killed on the spot, including Than Ma Nar. Two adults, a 12-year-old child and a six-month-old baby were severely injured.

There was no fighting taking place in the area at the time, suggesting that the bombing had deliberately targeted civilians.
