Davy Lloyd was an American Christian missionary who worked in Haiti with his wife, Natalie. Davy’s parents founded Missions in Haiti in 2000, incorporating a school, church and orphanage in the capital, Port-au-Prince. Davy grew up in the mission and spoke Creole as a first language. When he was five years old, Davy, his sister, and a foster sister from the orphanage were kidnapped, but they were all released the following day. When he was ten years old, he lived through the devastating Haitian earthquake of 2010, which killed an estimated 200,000 people.
Davy married Natalie, whose father is a Republican representative in the Missouri legislature, in June 2022. They moved to Haiti three months later to work at his parents’ mission.
On the evening of 23 May, Davy was leaving a church youth group meeting together with Natalie and several children when three trucks appeared at the mission compound carrying armed gang members. The gang members tied Davy up and beat him, before looting the mission and fleeing.
Natalie untied Davy, and the local head of the mission group, Jude Montis, arrived to help. Davy was using Jude’s phone to call his family when a second gang arrived at the scene. The three of them ran to the mission house and barricaded themselves in. The gang fired hundreds of rounds of bullets at the house before eventually breaking in. Once inside they killed Davy, Natalie and Jude, and set fire to the men’s bodies.
Davy was 23 and Natalie was 21 when they died, leaving no biological children. Jude Montis, 47, leaves behind a wife, two children ages 2 and 6, and a brother.
