Musab Abdulkareem Mohammed Adam was a 28-year-old football fan, living in Khartoum.
On 17 April, Musab had gone to watch the Real Madrid – Manchester City match at a social club in Soba Almahatta in the south east of Khartoum. Lots of people, including children, had come together to watch the match on TV. It was a rare opportunity for people to forget the conflict around them and enjoy a simple football match.
Suddenly, two mortar shells hit the club. Musab died instantly, alongside 19 others. Thirty people were wounded. Witnesses reported injured adults and children screaming as they desperately searched for their friends and loved ones in the smoke and debris. According to the coordinator of the Soba Almahatta Emergency Room, Farouk Yagoub, ‘Most of the injuries occurred among children and young people.’
The Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group is believed to have been responsible for the bombing, but nobody has been held accountable.
