Aanaa Mohammed A was a three-wheel rickshaw (Bajaj) driver in Dadar district, eastern Oromia region. He was the sole breadwinner for his family and was widely respected in his community for his hard work, humility, and integrity.
On 15 October, Aanaa was transporting passengers along his usual route between Goro Gutu and Qobbo when he was stopped by members of a local militia. The armed men ordered him to drive them to a particular location and, upon arrival, they ordered him to fetch some water.
Aanaa respectfully explained that he had passengers in his vehicle and would return after dropping them off. In response, one of the militia members ordered him to get out of the vehicle. As soon as Aanaa stepped out, the man shot him at close range in the right leg. Local residents desperately tried to get Aanaa to Deder Hospital, but he died due to blood loss before arrival.
Aanaa was 20 years old. No one has been held accountable for his death, and his family has received no support.
