Marcel Takea Djouma was born in Am-Dafock, Vakaga, near the border with Sudan. He was his parent’s only son.
Marcel was a trader and farmer. He was an ambitious young man, and his neighbours expected he would make a great farmer in the community. He had already managed to buy a horse, allowing him to cultivate his fields with a plough and increase the farm’s efficiency.
Marcel was the secretary of his community’s peace committee, and was active in promoting social cohesion.
On 26 December Marcel was shot and killed during a dispute over damage caused to his crops by cattle belonging to Sudanese herders. His death was described as a great loss not only to his family but to the hopes of his whole community. He was 26 years old.
